Lyrics

"Ray Leon"
Album - My Own Dixie

Ray Leon was a guitar man.
From bluegrass hills he came.
With a leather strap and calloused hands,
he made his guitar sing.

He rambled southward for a while,
living low from tune to tune.
But autumn sent a westward call
to the land where mountains bloom.

The westward call was silenced near
a cotton flint-rock town.
He met the girl – young Josephine,
whose love let him settle down.

Five years down a merry road,
Ray heard the call again.
He said, “Come with me, my Josephine,
a new life we shall begin.”

She replied, “Ray Leon, you guitar fool,
can’t you hush that drifter’s call?
Let the song be me and you
and the wind through Cotton Falls.”

(instrumental break)

Ray Leon is a guitar man.
He rambles down the road,
heading east for a cotton town
and his loving, grey-eyed Jo.

(instrumental break)
