"Better Off Alone"

I’ve always been someone who’d say,
“I’ll never change my ways.
Not for folks or friends –
And certainly no man.”

Strong and firm, I stood my ground,
But then you came around.

Well, who can tell what life will bring –
The unexpected thing.
You came nigh with your strength and song,
And I couldn’t hold long.

A new world full of highs and lows –
Where did that steady girl go?

Chorus: She’s waiting by the phone, wishing he’d call.
Puzzled by this painful falling sensation.
One moment high with love’s sweet song,
The next she plummets ‘cause it’s been so long since she’s heard his tones.
She’s better off alone.

The kind of peace she loved at home –
It’s forever gone.
Love does damage it can’t undo.
It’s worse when it’s untrue.

He left her hanging for far too long;
She realized he was gone.
Time will tell if she can turn back to
The girl that she once knew.

Chorus: Who wasn’t
Waiting by the phone wishing he’d call.
Puzzled by this painful falling sensation.
One moment high with love’s sweet song,
The next she plummets, ‘cause it’s been so long since she’s heard his tones.
I’m better off alone.

I’ve always been someone who’d say,
“I’ll never change my ways.
Not for folks or friends,
And certainly no man.”
