“Wayward Heart”

When I'm on my own, every sin I've sown,
every lie I've told for gain; every word unkept,
every sorrow wept, and I'm bound to fall again.
Oh, I despair, every sin laid bare.
But then His Word shines down through the night-mist air.
Chorus: Jesus saved. His Word He gave
when He died and rose from the cold stone grave.
He rules on, His love prolonged,
even when my faithless heart would fight for wrong.
When the doubts arise, my wayward heart, it tries
to steal the glory tied to grace.
Every deed I proclaim is a curse to His Name.
I can't rerun His dying race.
Oh, I despair, every sin laid bare.
But then His Word shines down through the night-mist air
Chorus: Jesus saved. His Word He gave
when He died and rose from the cold stone grave.
He rules on, His love prolonged,
even when my faithless heart would fight for wrong.
